BIASafe AI, a fintech startup at the crossroads of artificial intelligence and investment management technology, has partnered with Mitacs and Concordia University's Applied AI Institute to develop the next generation of transparent and auditable AI models for portfolio management.
The three-year project, "Toward Reliable and Auditable AI Models for Portfolio Optimization", will be led under the academic supervision of Professors Manar Amayri and Nizar Bouguila, with two PhD researchers working directly with BIASafe's engineering team.
At the core of the research is the use of multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL), an advanced approach where multiple AI agents learn collaboratively or competitively to model complex financial decision-making environments. This framework aims to reduce overfitting, improve robustness in real-time execution, and integrate explainable AI (XAI) techniques that make every decision traceable, interpretable, and auditable.
Supported by the Mitacs Accelerate program, the project combines Concordia's academic leadership with BIASafe's mission to build secure and ethically aligned AI for investment management. BIASafe will contribute real-world financial datasets, compliance-driven use cases, and its proprietary agent-based framework, while Concordia will provide advanced methodologies and conduct rigorous validation.
